Hormonal birth control includes the birth control pill, implants, patches, and some IUDs.

Here are some of the non-contraceptive benefits:

1. Reduced risk of anemia – hormonal birth control that causes you to skip periods can reduce the risk of anemia. Less loss of blood = more red blood cells in body.

2. Regulates menstrual cycles – may help balance hormonal fluctuations. Can help with irregular bleeding and heavy bleeding. Can also help with PCOS symptoms.

3. Saying bye to hormonal acne – hormonal contraceptives minimizes fluctuations of the hormones in your body, leading to the hormonal acne being controlled. Combined pills, specifically, are the most effective in this sense. Combined pills are pills containing both estrogen and progesterone.

4. Reduced cancer risk – a long-term benefit. Can reduce the risk of both uterine and ovarian cancer.

5. Helps with PMS and PMDD – hormonal birth control is a probable treatment for PMS and PMDD in terms of relieving the symptoms of the two.
